Halloween is a holiday celebrated on October 31, the eve of the Western Christian All Saints' Day. The history of Halloween is connected with the ancient holiday of Samhain, which was one of the most important days of the year for the Celts. It marked the end of summer and the beginning of winter. It was believed that during Samhain, the line between the earthly world and the other world was blurred, and the souls of the dead walked the Earth. With the advent of Christianity, the traditions of the holiday began to change. As a result, Samhain merged with the Catholic holiday of All Saints' Day, which was celebrated on November 1. And October 31 became the eve of this holiday — the Evening of All Saints (All Hallows Even). Over time, the religious component faded away. Today, for most people, this holiday is an occasion to dress up in scary costumes, decorate the house, eat sweets and just have a good time in a fun company.
