Wetwear takes the reigns this month with an eclectic mix of material from their catalog. Kristian Paulsen and Anders Bach, who also make up the duo Erna, are champions of anarchistic and unruly music that criss-crosses genres and instrumentation. Their selections reflect the process-oriented label and their efforts to capture and document spontaneous and intuitive expressions in a number of collaborations and contexts.
As technology further simplifies the creation and distribution of music, we’re at a familiar crossroads: is music art or entertainment? I would say that music is what happens when humans ascribe meaning to sound. Music is sound in context.
Context is one of the main things Xtych tries to create and support. It matters where the sounds come from, or rather, who decided to arrange them in a particular way, at this point in time, in this exact part of the universe. Building and preserving context is a challenge in today’s media landscape, where ephemeral transient experiences are increasingly becoming the norm.
In the coming months I’ll be working on getting new features up on xty.ch that help music creators, curators and audiences to build and preserve context. The end goal is a platform that mixes emerging and legacy technologies with the sole purpose of supporting and preserving relations, media, and not least: context.
I am not 100% percent sure how this looks yet. I don’t have a business plan, and no ambitions in that direction either. I feel like Xtych should just be allowed to blossom and become whatever it wants to become.
