Arturo Schomburg is a Puerto Rican American historian, curator, and activist. When he was young, Schomburg was told by a school teacher that Black culture lacked any noteworthy history. Fueled by the passion to prove this mentality wrong, Schomburg started collecting everything and anything related to Black culture to eventually build out the richest collection of Black history and artifacts. His archive became an important resource to fuel the Harlem Renaissance and to highlight the rich culture which was otherwise forgotten.
